अयं देवाय जन्मने स्तोमो विप्रेभिरासया। अकारि रत्नधातमः॥1॥

(विप्रेभिः) ॠभु अर्थात् बुद्धिमान् लोग (आसया) अपने मुख से (देवाय) अच्छे-2 गुणों के भोगों से युक्त (जन्मने) दूसरे जन्म के लिये (रत्नधातमः) रमणीय अर्थात् अतिसुन्दरता से सुखों को दिलाने वाली जैसी (अयम्) विद्या के विचार से प्रत्यक्ष की हुई परमेश्वर की (स्तोमः) स्तुति है, वह वैसे जन्म के भोग करनेवाली होती है॥1॥
भावार्थ — महर्षि दयानन्द सरस्वती
इस मन्त्र में पुनर्जन्म का विधान जानना चाहिये। मनुष्य जैसे कर्म किया करते हैं, वैसे ही जन्म और भोग उनको प्राप्त होते हैं॥1॥

1. This hymn, the bestower of riches,2 has been addressed by the sages, with their own mouths, to the (class of) divnities having birth.
Devaya janmane, literally, to the divine or brilliant birth; but the Scholastic explains the latter, jayamanaya, being born, or having birth, and the former, deva-sanghaya, a class of divinities, that is, the Rbhus, of whom it is only said, that they were pious men, who, through penance, obtained deification- manusyah santastapasa devatvam praptah. Thanks to the learning and industry of M. Neve, of the University of Louvain, we are fully acquainted with the history and character of the Rbhus, as they appear in different portions of the Rgveda- Essai sur le Mythe des Rbhavas. Their origin and actions are also nararted in the Nitimanjari, as well as in the notes of Sayana, on this and other similar passages. The Rbhus were the three sons of Sudhanvan, a descendant (the Nitimanjari says, a son) of Angiras, severally named Rbhu, Vibhu and Vaja, and styled collectively Rbhus, from the name of the elder. Through their assiduous performance of good works- svapas (su-apas), they obtained divinity, exercised superhuman powers, and became entitled to receive praise and adoration. They are supposed to dwell in the solar sphere, and there is an indistinct indentification of them with the rays of the sun; but whether typical, or not, they prove the admission, at an early date, of the doctrine that men might become divinities.
